Let no man dispise thy youth; but be thou an ensample to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in faith, in purity. I Timothy 4:12 |
KidSing is the brainchild of Glenn Colley, the preacher at West Huntsville church of Christ. We have about 10 to 15 minutes of this every Sunday evening before the beginning of our worship service. He uses this as a fun way for the youth (and adults) to gain knowledge of the scriptures. This is done by having the youth (and adults) memorize a card of facts and where they are found in the Bible.
When one of the youth memorizes the card of facts and recites it to one of the elders, they are given a trophy for their efforts. It is not a simple matter for the young people to memorize these facts and we feel that they should be rewarded when they have done so. If a young person is able to recite two of the cards that have been assigned in one session, they are given a special trophy. This encourages them to retain the information for the long term. The same goes for three cards. If they are able to recite the current card and answer four random questions from each of the previous cards (after having been checked off on those previous cards), they get a special trophy also.
Besides the cards, we also have other things that we tie into KidSing. We are learning the names of the twelve sons of Jacob. We start each week by reciting the names of all 66 books of the Bible by memory. This is an enjoyable time for us all. We also enjoy working on these things and learning them together. On top of these, you can ask any of the youth (or adults) a few questions and they will give you the appropriate answer:
Living your life and going to heaven.Living your life and NOT going to heaven. One man for one woman for life.A CHRISTIAN!The youth ages 3 through 12th grade are at the front of the auditorium during this activity. They are drilled on their Bible knowledge and sing songs. Some of the songs that are sung during KidSing are old standards. Some come from "Hannah's Hundred", a series of Bible versions put to music by the Colley Family. After KidSing, the youth return to sit with their parents and evening worship services begin.
The information that is given above about KidSing literature is free to use. If you would like more information about KidSing or Hannah's Hundred contact .
